| Kyle Nielson: Goaltender Coach |
Don’t let his youth fool you! Kyle’s passion for coaching and the depth of his experience make up for his young age. He began his minor hockey career at the age 5 in New Westminster. He was goaltending even then! He progressed to play in the U16 division in the 2005-06 season. Kyle went on to play in the Major Midget League with North West Giants winning the British Columbia Championship. The North West Giants then placed 4th at the Telus Cup Tournament in Red Deer, Alberta.
In 2007, Kyle earned a position as the goaltender for the Chase Chiefs of the KIJHL. That year he led the team to end the season with a 7 game winning streak. His hard work and dedication was rewarded when he received the “Most Improved” player award. Again, Kyle’s efforts were rewarded as he moved into the BCHL Junior A hockey league and played with the Merritt Centennials in 2008/09, playing his final Junior A hockey season with the Prince George Spruce Kings in 2009/10.
Kyle has trained and instructed with such notable coaches as Ron Veit, Pasco Valana and Mike Valley (head goaltending coach for the Dallas Stars). Over the last 4 years, Kyle has divided his time between coaching with Spring Hockey Goaltending Schools and with Minor Hockey. Our organization is fortunate to have Kyle’s experience and skill level to offer our aspiring young goalies.
